Pakistan: Khyber Pass memories

Well known railway photographer and steam charter organiser Günter Oczko was a guest at our annual review in Bonn, and since we also showed pictures of our »pioneer trip« to Pakistan from November 2019, he reminded us of the true pioneers to Pakistan:

SG/S 2487 and SG/S 2471 reach the 2 reverse at the Khyber pass in January 1982.

Today there is nothing left of the SG/S glory, and the Khyber pass has become completely impassable due to heavy landslides. One would still reach Landi Kotal, but that would be on the »flat section« …

Thank you, Günter, for this beautiful memory of the true pioneers!

In November 2020 we will see at least 1 SG/S in service again, if the plans of the Pakistan Railways keep valid. Not at the Khyberpass, but at their longtime home Malakwal.

SG/S Khyber Oczko
