Tanago steam photo charter railfan tours Steyr valley Austria

Switzerland:
Steam at Furka

5 – 7 September 2022

Since 2010, the entire Furka mountain route is passable again. It leads from Realp at 1538 meters through a lonely high valley up to the Furka Pass at 2163 meters and further over Gletsch and along the Rhone river originating here down to Oberwald (1366 meters above sea level). The line is used in summer by steam trains of the DFB. It is undoubtedly one of the most interesting and spectacular steam railroads in Europe.

We are pleased to be able to offer you, in cooperation with Peter Minder, the 3-day event in 2022. We will limit ourselves to a maximum of 45 participants. This will make the tour a little more expensive than usual, but fewer participants means much higher photo quality ! We only take participants who we know personally, on whom we can rely 100% in the high mountains (surefootedness required) and in terms of discipline.

The locomotives HG 4/4 No.704, HG 3/4 No. 4 and the HG 3/4 No.9 are used for our trains.

The event will start on September 5, 2022, 09.00 at Realp DFB station and will end on September 7, 2022, approx. 18.00 back at Realp Bf. DFB.

We let our program start and end in Realp, because the vehicles are stationed there and we can thus avoid an additional, expensive transfer trips on the first and last day. In Realp there are also enough parking spaces to park our cars. This ensures that they are nowhere in the picture during the shootings in Gletsch.

The trains are meant to be ridden. The passenger trains consist of matching red passenger cars, the freight cars are old wooden cars. The schedule on the first and last day with the 2 trains running behind each other is laid out so that they meet on the way and we can photograph both trains on the way. The route runs roughly east-west. Driving from Oberwald towards Realp in the morning and back in the afternoon is ideal in terms of light. We will schedule the travel times to take advantage of optimal light conditions.

Day 1
The locomotives HG 4/4 No.704, HG 3/4 No. 4 and HG 3/4 No.9 will be used for our trains.

Day 2
The locomotives HG 4/4 No.704, HG 3/4 No. 4 and HG 3/4 No.9 are also used for our trains.

Day 3
The locomotives HG 3/4 No.9, HG 3/4 No. 4 are used for our trains.

Night shots
On the first day there will be night shots at Gletsch station with all three locomotives at the turntable or station.
On the second day we will set up a freight train on the Rotten viaduct.

Timetables
Detailed schedules will be worked out in advance of the event and sent to all participants in advance.

End of the event.

Historical travelers with contemporary clothing
We will again have extras in period dress for our photo tour. The idea is travelers in dresses of the 1920s - 40s (ladies, gentlemen, also children, possibly persons in uniform, also in the role of additional railroad personnel, military, farmers, mountaineers are desired) to recreate the era of the steam-powered Furka-Oberalp Railway between 1926 and the electrification of the FO in 1941. Of course, old suitcases, luggage, baby carriages, pitchforks and other props are also wanted! The organization of the extras lies with Peter Minder.
